Mount Union Hires Sarratt as New Director of Libraries
June 24, 2020ALLIANCE, Ohio — The University of Mount Union is pleased to announce that Carla Sarratt has been selected to serve as its next Director of Libraries.
A native of northeast Ohio, Sarratt comes to Mount Union from Lincoln University (Pennsylvania), where she served as library director. She has also held librarian positions at New Hanover County Public Library (Wilmington, North Carolina) and the African American Cultural Center Library at North Carolina State University.
Sarratt earned a Master of Library Science from North Carolina Central University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and English from Wittenberg University.
“It was an especially deep and impressive pool of candidates to serve as the next Director of Libraries here at Mount Union,” said Dr. Jeff Breese, vice president for academic affairs and provost at Mount Union. “However, Ms. Sarratt truly impressed the search committee with her background and experience as well as her kind and collaborative approach that was evident at every stage of the search process.”
Sarratt will replace the retiring Bob Garland, who served as the Director of Libraries since 1988, a position he has held with a high level of organizational skill and willingness to support others as he oversaw significant transformations in the layout, collections, and staffing of the libraries at Mount Union. Breese expressed that “any individual who has had the pleasure of working with Bob will miss his thoughtful and mission-centered approach to his work at Mount Union.”
