February 14, 2018

ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Department of Theatre at the University of Mount Union is set to present “Quilters” as the spring musical Thursday, February 22 - Sunday, February 25 in the Giese Center for the Performing Arts.

"'Quilters' tells the story of how we settled in America. It doesn't shy away from the struggles or the pain as it presents an honest account of how the pioneers risked life and limb in search of their destiny," said Kevin Kern, the chair of the Department of Theatre at Mount Union.

The cast includes Sarah Slagle '18, Elizabeth Domer '20, Reilly Davidson '20, Julie Conair, Eva Wagner '21, Rachael Thorn '21, Naimah Coleman '21, Juliana Sutliff '21, Connor Johnson '21, Chloe Miller '20 and Abigail Adams '21. Chris Tucker '19 and Britt Kolek '21 are the stage manager and assistant stage manager, respectively.

The musical shows how a pioneer woman and her six daughters deal with the struggles and rewards of frontier life. Kern said, "The chief storyteller in this play is a woman, which allows us to see the pioneers' triumph through the eyes of our mothers, and their mothers, who were standing shoulder to shoulder with the men through every step of this treacherous yet vital journey."

The Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances will be at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday matinee is at 2 p.m.
