Career Path

I've always been very analytical and I enjoy helping people. I was inspired by a great professor to pursue accounting and tax as a career. While working in a corporate accounting position, I taught an accounting course as an adjunct at a local university and was immediately hooked on teaching. I did some research into the impacts of service learning opportunities in Accounting and Tax classes. This led to some of my tax students participating as voluntary tax preparers through the Voluntary Income Tax Assistance program. After that experience, I decided to make a career change into teaching full-time and was pleased to become part of the accounting faculty at Mount Union.

Being at Mount Union

The combination of teaching and academic advising is a great part of my job. I enjoy working with the students and seeing them progress throughout their time at Mount Union. Hearing from alums and keeping up with their career progress is also a fun part of the job. Mount Union has a friendly, welcoming culture and you can feel it as soon as you step on campus. The small class sizes make it much easier to get to know your students and for them to get to know you. This contributes to a very rewarding teaching and learning environment.

UMU Opportunities

The instructors in accounting all have practical experience. Bringing that experience into the classroom helps make the material more relevant. We have a very strong Accounting Internship at Mount Union. Our students are actively recruited for internship positions and also for full-time positions that start after graduation. In addition to academics, Mount Union students have many opportunities to develop life and leadership skills through athletics, other extracurricular activities, internships, etc. Having faculty members serve as academic advisors is also beneficial as many of us have practical experience prior to Mount Union and can provide relevant career advice about their chosen fields.
