Earlier today, we shared news with the campus community of a weather-related power outage on campus necessitated by a morning incident involving a primary electrical distribution pole that caught fire near Simpson Street and Miller Avenue. Ohio Edison has secured the area of the incident, traffic flow on Simpson Street is currently limited, and campus community members are asked to avoid the location until repairs can be completed.
The following facilities are currently without power:

- Honors House (431 W. Simpson St.)
- Hoover-Price Campus Center
- Interfaith Prayer House (205 W. Simpson St.)

Ohio Edison is on site and has assessed the situation. They have informed the University that, due to the extent of the damages, the estimated completion time for repairs is sometime tomorrow, Monday, March 17, 2025.
As a result, all undergraduate classes for Monday, March 17, 2025, at the University of Mount Union are canceled. Activities during this period are canceled as well. Undergraduate in-person classes and activities will resume on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. Undergraduate students who have not yet returned to campus following spring break should not do so until power has been restored on campus.
Graduate student courses may still be held at the discretion of the individual programs. Program directors and/or instructors will contact graduate students via email with details about how their courses will proceed. Graduate students are directed to contact their instructors with any questions.
Offices on campus will be closed. Due to the nature of this incident, Physical Plant, Campus Security, Health Center, Information Technology, and other designated emergency staff should report to work.
As noted above, the Hoover-Price Campus Center is one of the facilities impacted by this outage. Limited food service operations will continue for students already on campus beginning with dinner this evening and continuing tomorrow during regularly-scheduled hours.
At this time, there is power in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex, and we plan for the facility to remain open during current operating hours.
We will provide updates to the campus community as more details become available.

Early this morning, a primary electrical distribution pole caught fire near Simpson Street and Miller Avenue. As a result, Ohio Edison must isolate power, causing an outage on the north side of our campus. Unfortunately, the duration of this planned outage is currently unknown. We will provide updates to the campus community as soon as more information becomes available.
