Ultimate Career Goal
Upon graduating with my degree in biomedical engineering I want to become a prosthetist and orthotist! My interest in the program begun because I've always wanted to give people an opportunity to do things they thought were impossible or that others thought they couldn’t do! This, referring to helping people better themselves as I've reminded myself that in order to see change, one must help make that change. I say this because of a quote I love: "be the change you wish to see in the world!" - Ghandi. While there are many interpretations of his quote, I interpret it as changing someone's life, even if I've never met them.
Mount Union as a Second Home
I came on a couple of visits, as I was a soccer player, and I fell in love the minute I stepped on campus! Everyone made me feel at home-- from the soccer team to my ambassador that showed me around. The coach at the time made me feel welcome when I interacted with them. Since then, being involved in extracurriculars, I have been able to meet new people and provide that same “homey feel” that made me fall in love with Mount Union.
Real-World Experiences
Throughout my time as a student at Mount Union, I've made connections with members in the field I want to go into thanks to the hands-on opportunities I've taken advantage of, some including travel. I've held two internships as a biomedical engineering student; one with DOE (FIND meaning) and the other with PPPO (Find meaning) at a uranium enrichment plant. Here I gained research skills working alongside field experts at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. This experience also helped me overcome certain obstacles regarding my own strengths and weaknesses. Lastly, last semester I also traveled to the UK with the global engineering class and by far, spending a week in a new country has been my favorite! I learned to appreciate the small things and not take anything for granted.
