In 1913, the Greek letters Alpha, Delta, and Pi became the name of the organization. Membership in Alpha Delta Pi is displayed through their diamond shaped badge, and the four points of the diamond signify the four principles of the chapter of a sister – strengthening of her own character and personality; watching her own attitude toward her fellow human being; recognizing the value of high educational standards; and developing faith and loyalty. Alpha Xi Delta
Gamma Chapter (est. 1902)
The pen is mightier than the sword
In 1893, 10 young women at Lombard College in Galesburg, Illinois shared a vision and a dream of a national organization dedicated to the personal growth of women. Their dream became Alpha Xi (pronounced “Zee”) Delta, one of the oldest fraternities for women in the country. The timeless ideals envisioned by the founders of Alpha Xi Delta remain constant throughout the years. The mission of Alpha Xi Delta is to enrich the life of every member by nurturing unity and cooperation; fostering intellectual, professional and personal growth; exemplifying the highest ethical conduct; instilling community responsibility; and perpetuating fraternal growth. Mount Union’s Gamma Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta has the distinction of being the third oldest chapter – the Gamma Chapter, founded in 1902, has enjoyed well over 100 years as part of the University’s history and traditions. The women of Alpha Xi Delta participate in efforts celebrating their national philanthropy, the Kindly Hearts Campaign.
