Becoming a Physician Assistant
It took me a while to find the career of physician assistant. I was working in the medical field but was still looking for a career that would allow me to do more. I was introduced to a physician assistant for the first time in the early 90's and I was fascinated by the career. I had already fallen in love with medicine and the PA career was the vehicle that could take me to the level where I could practice medicine. I have never looked back. Being a PA has been the best choice I ever made. I love being in education now and being able to pass down my experience to the next generation of physician assistants. I enjoy seeing the progression they make in their 27 months in the program and it is fulfilling to see them walk out and become my colleague.
Favorite Part About the Job
I really enjoy seeing the students mature and progress through the program. When they leave the program they have transformed into patient providers capable of rising to unimaginable heights. The study of medicine is an amazing venture and it never ends, we are all lifelong learners.
Close-Knit Community
Mount Union is a close-knit community and our students are like family. I feel a connection to all of our students and I believe they feel a connection to all of our faculty. I think the students know that I am here for them and they can come to me for help without any regrets or worries. I think the students know that we are behind them and our goal is for their success.
Passion for the Program
I wanted to teach here because of the reputation of Mount Union and its PA program especially. I wanted to be a part of the success of this university and this program. I still feel that way after eight years. Our program is unique in every way, but the most is our close-knit faculty and the way we all work together for the success of every student. We all love our profession so much and I think that feeling is conveyed to the students. We take real pride in our students and their journey to becoming practicing PAs. We are really proud of the professionals that they become.
