A Passion for Art

I chose to study art education because I enjoy learning new things and sharing what I know with others. Art has always been something I am passionate about, whether it is creating work or sharing what I know about it with others. I also chose education because I would love to challenge and inspire new ideas in students, making them aware of their own thoughts or feelings, and pushing them to explore new ways of self-expression. Lastly, I love working with kids and want to make a positive impact in their lives each and every day.

Why Mount Union?

When I began searching for the college I wanted to attend, I visited small colleges and large ones as well as ones that were close to home and hours away. I ended up finding Mount Union because the head volleyball coach, Melissa Mahnke, reached out to me about visiting. I knew I wanted to play volleyball in college so I was super excited. After visiting, I immediately loved the team and the school and knew it was exactly where I wanted to be for the next four years. The student-professor relationships I've built as well as the small campus and class sizes have impacted my collegiate experience as a student-athlete in a positive way.

Ultimate Career Goal

My ultimate career goal is to become an art teacher. UMU is preparing me for that by providing me with excellent student teaching/field experience. I have had so much fun working with the students at each school I've been at and I have learned a lot from each mentor teacher I've observed. Each student-teaching experience I've been a part of has allowed me expand my network system. However, I've enjoyed learning from Dr. Susan Kelawae (my art education instructor), who has taught me so much about not only art but also teaching as well. Her classes are always fun and engaging.
