 Why History?

Teaching is integral for a comprehensive understanding of the past, present, and future, providing a foundation for critical thinking and analytical skills. Through history, we gain insights about human experiences, cultural developments, and societal patterns, learning from both successes and failures to make informed decisions and address contemporary challenges. The study and teaching of history also equips individuals with a broader perspective on different cultures, fostering a sense of civic responsibility. In essence, my choice to engage with history reflects a commitment to personal development and a desire to contribute positively to society.

Overcoming Uncertainty

Overcoming challenges as a first-generation college student and navigating the transition as a transfer student presented initial hurdles. The shift from high school to college was daunting, marked by uncertainty and a lack of clarity about my path. The fear of the unknown loomed large, and I found myself grappling with no clear direction. However, upon arrival at Mount Union, a transformative shift occurred. The support and guidance I received here not only rectified my mindset but exceeded my expectations. Faculty and staff like John Recchiuti, Theresa Davis, Marci Muckleroy, Christian Lopez, Caitlin Reash, and Ryan Riggs have all shaped my college journey for the better.

Advice for Prospective Students

My advice for high school students exploring colleges is to consider academics, campus culture, and personal preferences; I was immediately struck by the genuine warmth and friendliness of people at Mount. The atmosphere, faculty, staff, and students all make it feel like home. In addition, the student life and hands-on opportunities I've taken advantage of have greatly impacted my academic, personal, and professional lives.

My favorite has been the chance to travel to Columbus and participate in an Ohio Teaching Conference. The event proved to be an exceptionally fascinating and valuable experience where eminent insights gained and the connections forged during this conference helped me continue building my teaching skills. Every aspect of that trip, from the engaging sessions to the meaningful connections, was truly remarkable!
