A Career in Education
In my role as the Residence Life Coordinator, I assist with overseeing the Resident Assistants and the residential halls here at Mount Union. I also serve as the apartment manager for our graduate housing. I have been in this role for a little over a year. With efforts to enhance campus life and student experience at Mount Union, I work closely with all of the students here on campus, guiding them to the resources needed to be successful in achieving their goals and developing productive citizens in society. With prior experience as an administrator in Residence life at other institutions, I have enhanced my knowledge as a leader and professional through the classes I have taken. Many of my classes are designed to challenge students as well as practice the theories and methods learned in class. Upon completion of my degree, I plan to continue working in higher education. I have been advised by several of my mentors that the classroom is where they envision my skills and leadership. Given this consideration, I look forward to becoming an educator or utilizing my gifts and charming personality to help the institution grow in the Office of Admissions or Office of Advancement.
Finding a Home Away from Home
I chose Mount Union's Master of Education with a concentration in Educational Leadership and Instructional Design & Technology because I honor, admire, and appreciate the support I received from the Mount Union community during my undergraduate experience. As an Out-of-State student originally coming to Mount Union to pursue my football career, I faced many challenges personally, financially, and professionally after getting hurt during my first year of college. I applied to several other institutions but after my visits and speaking to their staff, none of them felt like home/family compared to how Mount Union did. When I spoke to Dr. Mandy Capel about what programs were offered, the motivation and encouragement I received was nothing short of confirmation that Mount Union is the place for me.
Why Recommend Mount Union?
My experience at Mount Union as an undergraduate and now as a graduate student has been very rewarding. I've been given the opportunity to enhance my skills and knowledge. Desiring to remain an administrator in higher education, Mount Union is preparing me by allowing me to work with students directly. Embracing the Pillars of Mount Union's Mission Statement I am prepared to continue to serve as a responsible citizen. I have a ton of love for Mount Union and the vision in which the leaders have worked to improve the institution and its success since I first heard about the institution play a role in how I view it and speak about it with others. In fact, I have shared my experience with many friends, and colleagues while networking in the community. I often reflect on my holistic growth when I speak on furthering my educational endeavors, therefore, I'd recommend Mount Union to both prospective undergraduate and graduate students.
