Why Teach Finance?
I chose the field of finance because of my interest in investments and financial management. As I grew in my career, I found the higher education finance environment to be particularly interesting and that led me to pursue a Ph.D. where I focused on public finance. My favorite aspect of my work here at UMU is watching students grow in the finance field. There is no better feeling than watching students apply classroom material in their internships and careers. I've also enjoyed the growing network of finance students that I have kept in close contact with, I am very proud of all of them!
Research Efforts
I have presented and chaired roundtables for higher education finance professionals across the country on the allocation of state funds and data used for this research has been used in my classes, specifically the financial modeling course. Also, I am passionate about financial literacy in our community and alongside the SCE students, I research and develop a financial literacy education series for varying community partners every spring.
A Mount Union Legacy
The education at Mount Union goes far beyond the classroom. The faculty, staff, board, and alumni, work to create a distinct learning environment for our students and that work is woven throughout the entire campus - from the classroom to the campus center. I had the opportunity to earn my bachelor's degree from the University of Mount Union and I knew the environment and commitment to the students well. I want to help write the next 20 years of Mount Union's success stories.
Student Opportunities
The finance program at Mount Union stands out because we are able to offer a tremendous amount of opportunities to our students:
- Finance certifications prior to graduating
- Internship partners
- Mentor network
- Community partnerships
- Classroom application on systems used in the field (Bloomberg, Morningstar, IBIS)
