Why did you choose teaching?

I want to "be the light" for others. When I was in first grade, I knew that I wanted to be a teacher. My teacher that year, Mrs. Warner, made me feel like I could do anything in this world, and I knew I wanted to have that same positive influence on my future students. People may not remember what I did or what I said, but they will remember how I made them feel. Every student deserves to have a champion, as Rita Pierson shared in her TedTalk, and I do everything I can to ensure my students know they are cared for and they matter.

What research have you done that you implemented into your curriculum?

My dissertation focused on the ethic of care, and how care is multidimensional. Essentially, how care is viewed varies based on a person's lived experiences and their perceptions. I have used this in my work, as I try to model how to provide a safe space for students, while still challenging them to be their best selves.

Why is Mount Union unique?

In the School of Education at Mount Union, we know our students and provide personalized attention to ensure they have support not only as a student, but as a person as well. We are accessible, flexible, caring, and collaborative. Our faculty and staff work extremely well together, and we love what we do!
