Choosing Exercise Science
I first chose sports science because I wanted to work in professional soccer. However, when I was in my undergraduate degree, I became fascinated with how the human body works and how much more there is to learn about it. I also got exposed to research during this time and knew then that I wanted to pursue a greater level of understanding for our field.
A Love for Teaching and Learning
I love interacting with students, particularly when they have questions that further their understanding. That is my goal, to have my students understand information, not just learn it. I also love being in an environment where I am driven to continue to learn. Teaching a science means that there is always new information that I need to stay on top of. This, in turn, helps our students to be as up-to-date as possible on the latest information.
Setting Mount Union Apart
Mount Union has a small school feel with big school facilities. This allows us as faculty to have connections with each of our students and give them access to just about any piece of equipment they may come across once they begin their careers. This is a huge benefit to students, as many future employers in our field want to know that you have experience, not just knowledge. Every school can disseminate knowledge, but here at Mount Union, we have the means to also provide hands-on experience, which sets us apart.
Exercise science students at Mount Union have endless opportunities to take advantage of if they choose to. Being a smaller school, but having top-class research facilities means that students here get to do their own line of research while an undergraduate. This is an experience usually reserved for graduate school and really sets our students apart.
