Advice to Prospective Students

My biggest piece of advice to anyone looking at colleges and universities would be to choose what is best for YOU. While that may seem simple, it is often easy to get bogged down in the stress of college decisions and let the opinions of others weigh on your decision. Ultimately, your college decision needs to be the best decision for you. The best thing that I did before applying to college was sit down and think about what I wanted in a college and what I wanted to get from my time in college. It may seem daunting at first, but college will be a life-changing experience, so it's important to choose the right fit for you.

Experiential Learning Opportunities

I had the opportunity to study abroad in San Sebastián, Spain for 10 weeks during the summer of 2024. This experience was nothing short of incredible and life-changing. Living in a new country and experiencing a different culture taught me so much and allowed me to grow exponentially. I betted my knowledge of Spanish linguistics, learned a bit of Basque and explore northern Spain. I am so grateful to have been able to continue my education abroad and would highly recommend studying abroad to everyone. I've gained research skills as well. Dr. Milliken Mercer has certainly impacted my experience at Mount Union. Dr. Mercer was my professor for BIO 140 during my first year at Mount. She allowed me to design an independent research project and work independently in a lab starting my second year. Since then, I have been able to work in this lab and tailor a project to my interests. This research has opened so many doors for me, including being able to do a formal presentation at Scholar Day and being able to continue my research through the Brumbaugh Scholars program. I am so grateful for the support that Dr. Mercer has given me in the lab and beyond.

Continuing a Legacy at Mount Union

One of my cousins went to Mount Union, so I grew up hearing about it. Once I started looking at universities, I knew that Mount was the right fit for me. From the first time I stepped foot on campus, I knew that it would be my home. I chose to attend Mount because of the beautiful campus, the close-knit community, the small class sizes and the amazing professional and academic opportunities. Throughout my time at Mount, I've gotten to work closely with professors and meet the most amazing people, all of which has made Mount Union feel like home for me.
