Slater Lecture

Dr. Sandra Blakely will present the Slater Lecture on March 4, 2025, at 7 p.m. in the Presser Recital Hall of Cope Music Hall. Dr. Blakely earned a PhD in Classics and Anthropology from the University of Southern California. Her interdisciplinary research delves into anthropology, history, and religion, focusing on fragmentary sources and secret rites. Dr. Blakely's current projects include employing social network analysis and geographic information systems to study the Great Gods of Samothrace and examining ancient game dynamics in understanding social dynamics and educational methods. Recently she, along with colleagues started a project, Sailing with the Gods, an interactive, 3-D game in which players pursue kleos in a simulation of the ancient Mediterranean seascape.
