Making Mount Union a Second Home

I first heard about Mount Union when I was recruited to play for the football team and later for the track & field team during my first semester on campus. However, I stayed for the opportunities and academic programs. Since hanging up my cleats and high jump spikes due to injuries, my perspective and purpose have shifted at Mount Union. I am focused deeply on my education, compassion, and exploration of the world. Having faculty and staff members like Mrs. Marci Muckleroy, Professor Laura Kelly, Professor Joel Evans, and Mrs. Abby Schroeder have made Mount Union feel like home. Being able to talk to adults who genuinely care about your past, present, and future is essential for every college student.

Advice to Prospective Students

You must be open to growth. My passions have changed substantially since the day I received my high school diploma. Give yourself grace during this time of seeking purpose, but be your biggest supporter. I know that when thinking about attending college, the financial aspect can often take precedence over personal preference. However, confidently seek the help you need and choose the best place for you—the place that you can call home away from home.

The Mount Union Experience

The most memorable experience I've had at the University of Mount Union was the social responsibility trip to the Dominican Republic. During this trip, I was deeply moved by the compassion of the church that hosted us. We built a bathroom for a kind widow, helped repair homes, visited the local school to spend time with the children, and bonded with the church community by going to the beach and attending Sunday service together. The connections that we made are long-lasting and I still communicate with my new family in the Dominican Republic! I learned about the social responsibility trip because Abby Schroeder approached me directly with the opportunity. Having her and Dr. Paul Tidman coordinate and guide us on the trip to the Dominican Republic was a very special and pivotal moment in my life. I am deeply grateful for these kind individuals, as well as for Marci Muckleroy for her motherly encouragement, Professor Joel Evans for his guidance with my studies, and Professor Laura Kelly for diligently preparing me for future opportunities.
