A Future in Psychology

My goal is to become a case manager. Mount Union is helping me become closer to my goal by gaining real-world experience at internship sites which have enhanced my knowledge in the social work field. I specifically chose psychology as a major because I have always been interested in how our brains work. I have friends and family who struggle with mental health so I have always wanted to learn why we think and do things. I also love to help people and listen when they are feeling down. This major has changed and helped me grow into the person I am today.

Advice to Prospective Students

I would advise students to visit as many schools as possible before choosing a school. Don't choose the school you get your first acceptance letter from. Look at what type of extracurriculars they offer, and see if you can sit-in on a class. One thing I liked about Mount Union when I was making the transition from schools was that they let me meet with advisors, and professors in the psychology department and let me tour classrooms as well.

Real-World Learning Opportunities

An opportunity I had was working at Alliance Intermediate School with fifth-grade students who are on the [autism] spectrum. This internship was amazing. I loved working with the children and staff as they taught me so many things I can apply to my career. I will forever have a special bond with the children. I am also excited to begin my second internship at Alliance Hospital where I'll be able to learn from professionals in the medical field. Though, my personal experience as a student at Mount Union has been impacted immensely by Marci Muckleroy, who has helped me adjust to campus as a transfer student as well as plan my schedule, semester after semester.
