Career
I am an English teacher at Katz Yeshiva High School in Boca Raton, Florida, where I am dedicated to delivering high-quality, personalized instruction to students, enhancing their critical thinking abilities, developing their written and oral communication skills, and fostering their academic and personal growth as a whole. I take pride in knowing that I'm not only imparting knowledge but also equipping my students with lifelong skills that transcend boundaries and open doors to countless opportunities. It's the combination of the supportive educational community and the enduring impact of the English language that makes my job truly gratifying.
Why Mount Union?
As a senior in high school, I attended the University of Mount Union through the College Credit Plus program. From the very first day of classes that year, I was warmly welcomed with open arms and surrounded by an atmosphere of kindness and encouragement. The professors and fellow students I encountered during my CCP year were incredibly supportive and went out of their way to get to know me. It was clear to me that Mount Union was more than just a place of education; it was a place where friendships flourished, support was abundant, and personal growth was nurtured. This sense of belonging and the strong bonds I formed during that time solidified my decision to choose Mount Union for my undergraduate studies. I knew that I wanted to continue my educational journey in an environment where I felt valued, supported, and challenged to achieve my fullest potential. Mount Union not only met these criteria but exceeded my expectations in every way.
Preparing for Your Career
As an undergraduate, I had the privilege of being a part of several extracurricular activities, including the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, the Order of Omega Greek honorary, the Kappa Delta Pi education honorary, and the university cheerleading team. Throughout my involvement in these organizations, I had the opportunity to serve on executive boards, which allowed me to develop strong leadership skills. This experience not only helped me build confidence but also provided me with valuable insights into team dynamics, organization, and decision-making. These skills and the self-assurance I gained during my undergraduate years continue to be instrumental in my success as a teacher in the classroom. They have enabled me to effectively manage and engage with my students, collaborate with colleagues, and contribute positively to the school community. Embrace every opportunity that comes your way, for in the end, it is often the things left undone that weigh the heaviest on the heart. You'll find that you rarely regret the actions you took.
Why do you love Mount Union?
I love Mount Union because it has been a place of immense personal growth and self-discovery for me. The university has provided me with a myriad of opportunities to explore my passions, discover my strengths, and truly understand what I love in life. Within the English department, I was consistently challenged to step out of my comfort zone to reach my fullest potential. Although it was difficult at times, this experience was indispensable in preparing me to confidently navigate the post-undergraduate phase of my life, fostering my independence and self-assurance. My professors recognized my potential even when I couldn't fully recognize it within myself. Their support never ceased. It remained constant, both during my journey through graduate school, where I earned my Master's in English, and now, as I have begun my career.
Another one of the most remarkable aspects of Mount Union is the abundance of outlets for meeting people and forming close bonds. Whether through engaging classes, diverse extracurricular activities, or a welcoming and inclusive community, I have had countless opportunities to connect with others who share my interests and values. These connections have not only enriched my college experience but have also become the foundation for lifelong friendships. At Mount Union, I've not only found what I'm passionate about but have also formed connections that will last a lifetime. Mount Union has given me some of my very best friends, with whom I will continue to grow in life, and I cannot be more thankful.
Goals for the Future
One of my primary career goals as an English teacher is to continually foster a love for literature and language in my students. While academic achievements are undoubtedly important, I aim to create an educational environment where students not only excel in their studies but also develop a passion for reading, writing, and critical thinking. I want my students to leave my classroom with both improved skills and a lasting enthusiasm for exploring new ideas and perspectives through literature. Achieving this goal involves constantly refining my teaching methods, staying current with educational trends, and tailoring my approach to the unique needs and interests of each student. I believe that instilling a love for English in my students will empower them to become confident communicators and lifelong learners, prepared for success in any field they choose to pursue.
