ALLIANCE - The University of Mount Union appreciates and encourages its students to take part in unique international experiences. Chloe Bird ’26, German and media double major, spent her summer in Lüneburg, Germany, learning and immersing herself in the culture.

“I love traveling and when I found out that I could complete my German studies in Germany, it was an opportunity that I could not let pass,” said Bird.

Bird's favorite part of her stay abroad was traveling to cities like Berlin, Lübeck, and Munich in Germany as well as Salzburg, Austria.

While she feared encountering differences between the American and German cultures, Bird explains that experiencing change is a good thing as it is part of life and helps shape our mindset. Spending five weeks abroad helped Bird interact with German natives and engage in activities related to their culture which enhanced her fluency in the German language.

“Studying abroad is a unique journey that opens doors to [real-life experiences] and professional opportunities that students must take advantage of,” said Bird.

Mount Union celebrates students like Bird who have learned to appreciate other cultures and gained a new worldview. Learn more about traveling abroad at Mount Union through our study abroad program.
