ALLIANCE - Celebrating Doctor of Physical Therapy month, graduate student, Allison Michalos D’25 explains the importance of becoming a physical therapist and taking advantage of the endless opportunities the University of Mount Union's program has offered to her.

“During my dancing career, I suffered a hamstring tear, which led me to seek care from physical therapy,” said Michalos. “When I thought about where my professional career would end up, I enjoyed my recovery journey with my physical therapist who inspired me to pursue the same career.”

Michalos explains that being a student in Mount Union’s physical therapy program has allowed her to achieve and set new goals while building a skill set in the medical field. While technical knowledge is important, Michalos states that continuing to form relationships with her patients is a goal that will transcend beyond Mount Union as this will help enhance her confidence as a professional.

“Out of all the clinical rotations that students experience, working as a pelvic floor therapist is an interesting specialty as I enjoy helping people needing this type of care,” said Michalos. “However, I can also see myself helping people needing vestibular rehabilitation as I find it fascinating learning about and helping patients with inner ear problems.”

Michalos describes her journey in physical therapy as challenging yet rewarding and has allowed her to succeed academically and professionally. She explains that the program has taught her that it is important to continue learning — regardless of the method.

Celebrate physical therapists and physical therapists to-be this month with Mount Union, as we recognize their dedication to the field.
