The new program reflects the increased demand for data scientists across a variety of disciplines. According to LinkedIn’s 2020 Emerging Jobs Report, “data science is a field that is seeing continued growth on a tremendous scale.” The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects the overall career growth in data related fields to be between 16-31% through 2028.
Mount Union’s minor in data science and analytics also presents opportunities for significant interdisciplinary collaboration across majors in its three academic colleges. Proposed courses offered as part of the curriculum include Artificial Intelligence, Quantitative Methods for Business and Financial Modeling.
“This new minor is the first of new offerings that will demonstrate Mount Union’s commitment to interdisciplinary programs and serves to expand the academic portfolio of the university into newly emerging fields of study,” said Dr. Jeffrey Breese, vice president for academic affairs and provost at Mount Union.
