Mount Union Once Again Named a Top College, Best Value by U.S. News and World Report

ALLIANCE, Ohio — For the 29th consecutive year, the University of Mount Union has been recognized as a top college by U.S. News and World Report.

Mount Union was ranked 13th among Midwest Regional Colleges in U.S. News and World Report’s 2020 Best Colleges rankings. The Midwest Regional category includes institutions from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

The institution was also ranked ninth for Best Value, which takes into account the ratio of quality to price, the percentage of undergraduates that receive need-based aid, and the total scholarship/need-based aid received by students.

Mount Union was also ranked as a Top Performer on Social Mobility, which is a new ranking introduced by U.S. News and World Report for the 2020 rankings. The ranking measures how well schools graduated students who received federal Pell Grants. Mount Union ranked in the top third of Midwest Regional Colleges for this ranking.

In response to the rankings, Mount Union President Dick Merriman stated, “We are very committed to helping hard-working students – including those from families of modest financial means - gain a valuable education and move ahead in careers and community leadership. It is gratifying to be recognized for our success in powering social mobility.”

Mount Union’s tuition is 11 percent below the average cost of similar institutions. About 98 percent of undergraduate students receive some form of financial aid, and nearly 87 percent receive need-based aid. The average aid package of $26,172 demonstrates Mount Union’s commitment to affordability. The University offers more than $30.7 million in grants and scholarships each year.

Along with being named in U.S. News and World Report’s 2020 listing, the University of Mount Union holds numerous national rankings. The University has been included in Forbes’ 2019 America’s Best Colleges ranking and The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings. Mount Union has also been featured in the Princeton Review’s Guide to Green Colleges for six consecutive years. Other citations have been garnered from College Factual, Niche, Educate to Career, STARS, Arbor Day Foundation and Sierra Club.
