Physics, Data Science Professor Campbell Co-Authors New Book
March 13, 2024ALLIANCE — Dr. Colin Campbell, associate professor of physics, recently co-authored a new academic book entitled “Boolean Networks as Predictive Models of Emergent Biological Behaviors” through Cambridge University Press.
“The behavior of the human immune system, the spread of information on social media and the flow of electrical current over the power grid are all examples of complex systems. These systems can be studied in the context of an underlying network of relatively simple interactions, such as individual pairs of friends on a social media platform,” Campbell said. “This book describes a series of Boolean methods (where components of the networks are ON or OFF at a given instant) that have proven particularly useful in analyzing complex biological systems. I and my coauthors hope that it is a useful resource for members of the scientific community.”
Campbell co-authored the book with peers Jordan C. Rozum of Binghamton University, Eli Newby and Réka Albert of Pennsylvania State University and Fatemeh Sadet Fatemi Nasrollahi of Indiana University. The book is available for purchase by visiting the Cambridge University Press website.
