May 01, 2019

ALLIANCE — The University of Mount Union has named Dr. Michael Knepp, associate professor and chair of the Department of Psychology, Neuroscience and Human Development, as its 2019 Great Teacher.

The award was presented on Tuesday, April 30 at Mount Union's annual Senior Recognition and Honors Convocation.

A member of the Mount Union faculty since 2010, Knepp earned a Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh, as well as a Master of Science and Ph.D. in developmental and biological psychology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

One student nominator said, “I love Dr. Knepp’s teaching style because it allows me to apply my learning to real-life situations, and I have enjoyed every class I have taken from him. I want to nominate him not just for being an amazing teacher, but also for being the best mentor I have ever had.”

“Dr. Knepp is the most reliable professor that I have had at Mount Union. He has inspired me to do my best work and continue my education in research. I cannot imagine my college career without Dr. Knepp as my advisor,” said another student.

The Great Teacher Award, initiated in 1962, is sponsored by the Alumni Association and recognizes excellence in teaching – the foundation upon which the reputation of Mount Union has been built.

Knepp was chosen as this year’s Great Teacher by a selection committee consisting of the officers of the senior class, the two past recipients of the Great Teacher Award and the president and immediate past president of the Alumni Association.
