As the Graphic Arts Director at The Vindicator in Youngstown, Ohio, I oversee the layout, creative design and art and photography departments. I find ways to be creative while dealing with sensitive news stories through typography, color, graphic design and photography.
Liberal Arts
I came to Mount Union because they offered a well-rounded education and selection of courses and majors; they also offered and supported the fine arts.
Favorite Professor
My favorite instructor at Mount Union was professor Joel Collins because through his humor and knowledge, he helped all his students learn and grow. The close-knit atmosphere between the caring faculty and the students at Mount Union is highly admirable.
Getting the Job
My first job after graduation was working as an art director at Modern Glass Company. While at Mount Union, I took journalism classes along with my fine arts major classes. I had no intention of ever using them in my career. It ended up leading me to the job where I have been working at for almost 26 years.
Staying in Touch
I stay in touch with the Mount Union community through the Mount Union Matters newsletter, email, Facebook and newspapers.
Doing What I Love
I truly enjoy that I get paid to do what I love — be creative. One of my personal goals is to have a one-man show of my paintings and photography.
Giving Thanks
I have been a leader in my field since graduation and have won numerous Associated Press awards for illustration, design and layout. I owe this all to my time and my professors at Mount Union.
