What Stands Out about Mount Union's MSN Program?

The special thing about this program is the wide variety of specialty certifications and degrees, clinical backgrounds, and teaching experience that our professors encompass. Their experiences are helping guide me to make the shift from bedside nursing to the practitioner role. Mount Union offers an environment where students can advance their education while working towards accomplishing long-term goals. I really like that professors are invested in students' personal and professional goals.

A Career as a Nurse

When I was a little girl, I used to watch my grandma take care of many elderly folks in our family and community. She was such a fantastic care taker and always went above and beyond her role. I would watch her and think "I could never do that." As I grew older, I would still tag along with her as she was caring for others so I began to see what a privilege it was to care for others. While I still wasn't sure I wanted to be a nurse, but it did start to begin to be something I felt I was capable of. My mom had complications from a procedure and was in and out of the hospital for several months when I started high school. It was during her experience witnessing how horrible some of her care was that I decided I was going to become a nurse, and I was "going to prove that it wasn't that hard to give exceptional care." At almost 6 years into the profession, I still think of my grandma daily and strive to care for others in the way that she always has.

Returning to my Alma Mater

As an alumna, Mount Union will always feel like home and that is what set this program apart from other schools I was considering. Chris Pontius helped with the application; she truly is like a personal cheerleader and was so kind, encouraging, and helpful! This program also offers an asynchronous approach to learning, and that is what I needed in order to make going back to school possible while still working at the bedside.
