Cost and Scholarships

Studying abroad is a life changing experience and can be easily affordable. There are several scholarship opportunities that may help you finance your study abroad experience detailed below. You can find a comprehensive list of study abroad funding opportunities here. While the Center for Global Education is able to provide you with information regarding scholarship opportunities, it is the student's responsibility to discuss the implications of receiving a study abroad scholarship with the Office of Student Financial Aid.

Funding Opportunities

  1. Center for Global Education Scholarships

    The Harriet Fletcher International Travel Award - This application is available to assist students who will be learning abroad during the fall or spring semester.

    CGE Scholarship for USAC Programs - This application is available to assist students who will be studying abroad at a USAC program site.

  2. Boren Scholarship

    Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded.

  3. Gilman Scholarship

    The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study and intern abroad programs worldwide.

  4. Bridging Scholarship

    The Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan. Funding from private foundations and major U.S. corporations, through donations to the nonprofit US-Japan Bridging Foundation, makes it possible to award about 100 scholarships each year to assist students with the travel and living expenses they will incur while studying abroad in Japan for a semester or an academic year. Applications are accepted twice a year for Bridging Scholarships.

    USAC has a variety of scholarships available to you for your studies abroad.
