ALLIANCE- Have you ever wondered what it would be like following a parent’s or sibling’s footsteps? Doing so will not prevent you from writing your own story at the University of Mount Union. Twins Jacob'18 and Joshua '18 Lock, nursing alumni, shared a passion for nursing and are now successful nurses.

“Mount Union provided an excellent and rounded education,” said Joshua. “I felt that I was entering the workforce after graduation as a well-prepared member of the field.”
Nursing students at Mount Union gain hands-on skills as early as their sophomore year. Joshua completed his clinicals at facilities like Alliance Aultman Hospital and Akron Children’s Hospital, where he currently works.
“I chose pediatric critical care because it has allowed me to make such a strong impact on a child’s life when they are at a fragile moment in their life, and hopefully assisting in allowing them to live a full life,” explained Joshua.
As for Jacob, a clinical float nurse at University Hospitals, becoming a nurse allowed him to engage and help people directly. Mount Union’s nursing facilities and faculty impacted Jacob’s career because he can help patients across different units at University Hospitals.
“Having clinical experience in my background allowed me to begin my career confidently,” said Jacob. “Interacting with patients and their families, performing skills, and working as a team were all things Mount Union prepared me for.”
Jacob explained that the path he and his brother followed influenced their post-graduation accomplishments in the medical field.
"It was a very cool experience to go through nursing school with [my twin brother] and to share these life experiences."
Their experience at Mount Union led the Lock brothers to further their education in nursing, pursuing master's degrees, and continuing to earn certifications as nurses.
