SEATTLE – Media is a growing field at the University of Mount Union, both professionally and academically. This year, the creativity of theatre major Kabiona Ramadhani ’25 was recognized at the Fall 2024 College Broadcasters Inc (CBI) conference in Seattle, Washington, where he was awarded Best Digital Short at the annual Student Production Awards.

“[I won first place for digital shorts making] and it feels amazing knowing that what I create can be recognized at a national level,” said Ramadhani. “Winning this award motivated me to continue my path in storytelling.”
Alongside Ramadhani, three other students, Dr. Adelina Cooper, associate professor of communication, and Lynn Riggle, WRMU coordinator and box office manager, represented the Purple Raiders at the conference. Students learned about college filmmaking and how to enhance their skills.
“When it comes to visual storytelling, I've learned a lot from my professors [who challenge me to give the best in and outside the classroom],” said Ramadhani. “I would not change anything about my experience at Mount Union.”

After graduating in the spring, Ramadhani wants to enhance his skillset as a storyteller beyond the theatre stage, using the skills he has gained in making short films. This experience not only recognized Ramadhani's work, but provided him with an opportunity to enhance his network system by meeting other young filmmakers like him as well as professionals succeeding in the production industry.
