Filter-less Vacuum System

As part of an ongoing project for the Department of Mechanical Engineering, mechanical engineering students are designing a prototype filter-less vacuum system. The goal of this project is to develop a system with no filters or brushes with the ability to pick up two-inch diameter particles and be implemented onto a vehicle to maneuver throughout a manufacturing plant. The vacuum would then be able to remove hazardous metallic dust that is generated in steel mills. There is potential for the vacuum to be introduced to the market in the coming years. 

Mechanical engineering students Brian Lipovits, Andrew Dorman, Michael Furda and Timothy Roller built the first prototype out of wood, PVC and steel. These students tested their system and provided recommendations for the continuation of the project.
